Your trip to the Deep South would be remiss without trying some authentic southern barbecue. North Carolina’s barbecue is synonymous with heavy-smoking, dry rubs, and sweet and spicy barbecue sauce. While the traditional BBQ style revolves around pork, served as pulled pork or a short rack of ribs, you can find fried chicken and seafood barbecue as well.

At Sooey’s BBQ, we offer a wide selection of barbecue that you’re sure to love! From hand-pulled pork to beef brisket and southern fried chicken, we have authentic southern barbecue that will knock your socks off! Stop by one of our barbecue restaurant locations today or browse our menu online!

Do you love the sweet taste of peaches? If so, make sure to pick up some southern peaches during your trip to the Outer Banks. If you end up driving through South Carolina, make sure to pick up some peaches along Highway 11 on the western edge of the state. In Georgia, you can also find peach vendors at Lane Southern Orchards, right off of I-75 South. If you’re a fan of desserts, make sure to try out some authentic peach cobbler. This dish is particularly popular during the summer months, often served with a large scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Fried Green Tomatoes

Fried green tomatoes are a southern side dish made with unripe tomatoes that are coated in cornmeal and fried in a shallow pan. Oftentimes, chefs will use a “wash” of buttermilk and a beaten egg to help the cornmeal stick to the tomato.

Pecan Pie

If there’s one dessert to try during your trip to the Outer Banks, it’s pecan pie. Made with pecan nuts, corn syrup, honey, and brown sugar, pecan pie will surely cure your sweet-tooth. Most restaurants in the south will have pecan pie as a dessert option, so it shouldn’t be too hard to find!

Fried Catfish

A true southern delicacy, fried catfish is made by covering fish in flour or cornmeal and frying it in a shallow pan. This delicious fish can be served on a sandwich and is often accompanied with coleslaw, french fries, and baked beans.
